PanTheryx’s Product, DiaResQ, Selected as a Leading Healthcare Innovation with Great Promise to Transform Global Health

As reported on Business Wire July 16, 2015

BOULDER, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–PanTheryx, Inc., a global medical nutrition company based in Boulder, Colorado, announced today its flagship product for pediatric infectious diarrhea, DiaResQ, has been selected in Reimagining Global Health, the inaugural report of the Innovation Countdown 2030 initiative, as one of the 30 leading healthcare innovations with great promise to transform global health by 2030 and to help accelerate progress toward the new health targets proposed in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

DiaResQ was one of only 12 innovations recognized in the maternal, newborn and child health categories. Specifically formulated for the dietary needs of children with infectious diarrhea, DiaResQ is a nutritional intervention that promotes intestinal repair and boosts a child’s natural defenses.

“We are truly honored to have DiaResQ included in the Innovation Countdown 2030’s Reimagining Global Health report,” said Mark A. Braman, President and CEO of PanTheryx. “This recognition validates what we have always believed – that DiaResQ is truly a breakthrough nutritional intervention for pediatric diarrhea with the potential to greatly improve the wellbeing and quality of life of millions of children and their families worldwide.”

Infectious diarrhea is a major world health challenge. Globally, approximately 1.7 billion cases occur annually in children under five. Almost 760,000 of these children under five die every year as a result of this condition. Pediatric infectious diarrhea kills nearly as many children as HIV/AIDS, malaria and measles combined.

Led by PATH and supported by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Innovation Countdown 2030 initiative aims to accelerate high-potential innovations, catalyzing investment and increasing awareness of and support for transformative ideas to improve health and save lives.

The Innovation Countdown initiative asked 5,000 plus experts, innovators and technology developers to identify lifesaving ideas and technologies. Over 500 innovations from more than 50 countries were nominated in eight categories. The nominations were then qualitatively assessed based upon the accessibility and affordability of the innovation, stage of development, expected performance compared to existing solutions, potential impact, and the number of nominations received. Of the 500 nominated innovations, 175 were then submitted to panels of world-renowned health area experts for evaluation and ranking. Of these 175, the top 61 were then submitted to a second independent, interdisciplinary expert panel for final ranking of the top 30 innovations.
